The Medicine

What Is Ibogaine Treatment?

Ibogaine is the primary active alkaloid of the iboga root bark. In therapeutic contexts, it is administered for the treatment of opioid addiction, PTSD, and treatment-resistant depression — conditions that have often not responded to conventional approaches.

Ibogaine engages multiple neurological systems simultaneously — dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and NMDA receptors — producing a neurological reset that is qualitatively different from any single-mechanism compound. After the active experience, it converts to noribogaine, which remains biologically active for weeks to months.

The 2023 Stanford study in Nature Medicine examined ibogaine treatment in special operations veterans with severe PTSD and treatment-resistant depression. At one month post-treatment: PTSD symptoms decreased by 88%, depression by 87%, anxiety by 81%.

What Ibogaine Treatment Addresses

Who This Work Is For

Opioid Addiction Recovery

Ibogaine interrupts opioid dependency at the neurological level. It is uniquely effective at breaking the physical and psychological patterns that sustain opioid use.

PTSD Treatment

88% reduction in PTSD symptoms one month post-treatment (Stanford, Nature Medicine 2023). The autobiographical review reveals the narrative wounds that trauma creates.

Treatment-Resistant Depression

For people who have not responded to SSRIs, SNRIs, or other conventional interventions, ibogaine offers a fundamentally different approach — one that addresses root cause.

Stimulant Dependency

Cocaine, methamphetamine, and other stimulant dependencies respond to ibogaine's neurological reset in ways that traditional treatment often cannot achieve.

Restore Neurological Baseline

Ibogaine does not simply mask symptoms. It initiates a genuine neurological reorganisation that allows the baseline state of the nervous system to reset.

Integration & Support

Medical facilitation during the experience, plus ongoing integration support to make sense of what was encountered and consolidate lasting change.

Before Any Ceremony

Medical Screening Process

Medical screening is not optional. It is how we ensure that ceremony is safe for you, and that you are an appropriate candidate for this kind of work. This is not bureaucracy — it is care.

01

Initial Application

Begin with an online application outlining your background, intentions, and relevant health history.

02

Medical History Intake

Comprehensive review of all medical conditions, psychiatric history, current medications, and any contraindications.

03

Cardiac Screening

EKG required prior to ceremony. Certain cardiac conditions (QT prolongation, arrhythmias, recent MI) are absolute contraindications.

04

Blood Panel

Baseline bloodwork to assess liver function, kidney function, CBC, and other relevant markers.

05

Readiness Evaluation

A conversation about psychological readiness, life circumstances, support systems, and whether this is the right time.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What conditions does ibogaine treat?

Ibogaine is used to treat opioid addiction, stimulant addiction, PTSD, and treatment-resistant depression. It is typically administered to people who have not responded to conventional treatment.

What does the Stanford research show?

A 2023 Nature Medicine study examined 30 special operations veterans with severe PTSD and treatment-resistant depression. At one month post-treatment: 88% reduction in PTSD, 87% in depression, 81% in anxiety.

How is ibogaine different from traditional rehab?

Traditional rehab often addresses behavioral patterns. Ibogaine addresses the neurological substrate that supports addiction. It initiates a genuine reset at the level of dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine systems.

Is medical supervision required?

Yes. An on-site medical professional is present throughout the 12–24 hour experience. Cardiac monitoring, EKG, and blood panels are mandatory. This is not optional.

Texas committed $50 million to clinical ibogaine trials at UTMB, UTHealth Houston, Texas A&M, and Baylor.

Legal Status in Canada

Ibogaine is not scheduled under Canada's Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. It is not approved for medical use, but it is not explicitly prohibited — a distinct position from the US (Schedule I) or UK (Class A).

Honest Assessment

This work is not for everyone

We tell people when this path is not appropriate for them. This is not a sales tactic. It is how responsible ceremony is practiced.

If you are not an appropriate candidate — because of a cardiac condition, current medications, or a state of acute psychiatric instability — we will tell you directly. We would rather lose a potential participant than facilitate an unsafe ceremony.

Read the FAQ

Cardiac contraindications

QT prolongation, significant arrhythmia, or recent myocardial infarction are absolute contraindications. EKG identifies this before ceremony.

SSRIs and SNRIs

Absolute contraindications. A supervised taper conducted with your physician is required before ceremony is possible. There are no exceptions.

Acute psychiatric crisis

Active suicidal ideation, florid psychosis, or significant instability. The experience amplifies what is present. This is not the moment.

Primarily seeking a pleasant experience

Iboga shows you what you have been avoiding. People who arrive expecting comfort are consistently surprised.

If this is where you are, the application takes five minutes.

We read every application personally. If your situation is appropriate for ceremony, we will be in touch within 2–3 business days.
