How Much Is Ibogaine Treatment in Canada?

Published by Transcend

Ibogaine ceremony in Canada costs $2,000–$5,000 CAD. 5-MeO-DMT ceremony costs $600–$1,500 CAD. Integration coaching, if you add it, is $150–$300 CAD per session.

Those are the numbers. What they cover—and what drives the range—matters more than the top-line figures.

Key figures

  • Iboga ceremony: $2,000–$5,000 CAD (includes on-site medical professional, medicine, facilitation, 2–3 day supervised recovery)
  • 5-MeO-DMT ceremony: $600–$1,500 CAD (same inclusions, 20–45 minute active experience)
  • Integration coaching: $150–$300 CAD per session (60–90 min); packages of 3+ sessions available
  • Medical screening required before any ceremony date is set
  • Response time for applications: 2–3 business days

What ibogaine ceremony costs—and what is included

The $2,000–$5,000 CAD range covers a programme, not a single event. The active iboga experience lasts 12–24 hours. The on-site stay, including supervised recovery, is typically 3–5 days total.

Every legitimate ibogaine programme includes these components:

  • An on-site medical professional throughout the active experience. Ibogaine affects the QT interval on the cardiac cycle. This is a real pharmacological effect, and it requires real-time monitoring—not a phone number to call if something goes wrong.
  • Pre-ceremony medical screening. EKG and cardiovascular assessment, full blood panel (liver function, kidney function, complete blood count), psychiatric history review, and complete medication review. This is how contraindications are identified before ceremony, not during.
  • The medicine. Whole root bark or ibogaine hydrochloride, prepared according to the programme.
  • Full facilitation during the 12–24 hour active experience.
  • A 2–3 day supervised recovery period on-site. The noribogaine metabolite—ibogaine's primary active metabolite—continues to influence the nervous system for weeks to months after ceremony. The acute recovery period is distinct from that longer window.

If a programme does not include these elements, the lower price reflects a programme that has removed components—not a provider being generous.

What 5-MeO-DMT ceremony costs

5-MeO-DMT ceremony at Transcend costs $600–$1,500 CAD. The active experience is 20–45 minutes. The full programme includes intake and medical screening, the ceremony with full facilitation, and a 2–3 day supervised recovery period on-site.

The shorter duration does not mean lower intensity. The ego dissolution that occurs in 20–45 minutes can be more complete—and more disorienting to integrate—than a longer experience with more narrative content. The screening requirements are the same. SSRIs, SNRIs, and MAOIs are absolute contraindications. An EKG is required.

Some people do both ibogaine and 5-MeO-DMT ceremony, typically sequenced as separate programmes. The combined cost range for both is $2,600–$6,500 CAD, depending on individual requirements.

Integration coaching costs

Integration coaching at Transcend costs $150–$300 CAD per session (60–90 minutes). Packages of three or more sessions are available. Exact pricing for packages is discussed during intake.

The ibogaine metabolite noribogaine remains active in the body for weeks to months after ceremony. During this period, the nervous system is in a state of elevated plasticity—new patterns are more available than usual, and old ones are less entrenched. What is done in this window largely determines whether the outcomes from ceremony persist.

Integration coaching is the structured support during that window. It is not an upsell. Providers who hand people a pamphlet and wish them well after ceremony are not providing ibogaine treatment—they are providing ibogaine.

More on what integration involves: integration coaching at Transcend.

Why below-market prices signal reduced safety, not generosity

Any ibogaine provider charging significantly below market rate is almost certainly reducing safety infrastructure. The cost of an on-site medical professional, proper cardiac screening, and the medicine itself is fixed. A programme offering ibogaine ceremony for $500 has removed one or more of those components.

Ibogaine has real cardiac contraindications. QT prolongation is an absolute contraindication. An EKG is how you identify it before ceremony, not during. Providers who skip this step are cutting the line that separates a ceremony from a fatality for someone with undiagnosed QT prolongation.

This matters particularly for people in acute desperation. People with the strongest need to make the price work are often the people with the highest medical complexity—long-term opioid use, years of psychiatric medication, cardiovascular risk factors they may not know about. The combination of high medical complexity and a programme with no medical infrastructure is not a bargain.

The question is not whether you can find ibogaine at a lower price. You can. The question is whether what you find at a lower price is a programme that will identify your contraindications before ceremony rather than during it.

What drives the difference within the legitimate price range

Within the legitimate range of $2,000–$5,000 CAD for ibogaine ceremony, the variance reflects several factors:

  • Programme depth. Some providers offer a more extended on-site stay with more intensive facilitation. A 3-day programme at the lower end of the range is different from a 5-day programme at the higher end.
  • Individual vs. group. Programmes with more individual attention cost more. The medicine does not dose by group; the monitoring and facilitation requirements are per-person.
  • Clinical complexity. People with more complex medical or psychiatric histories require more preparation time and more involved screening. This adds facilitator time before ceremony begins.
  • Geography. Canadian programmes are typically quoted in CAD. Mexican programmes are typically quoted in USD and range from $4,000–$15,000 USD for established programmes, which is $5,500–$20,000 CAD at current exchange rates.

Price alone does not distinguish a better programme from a worse one within the legitimate range. Ask what is included: who the on-site medical professional is, what the medical screening covers, and what the supervised recovery period involves.

Additional costs to consider

The ceremony cost does not include everything.

  • Travel and accommodation. For participants coming to Vancouver from elsewhere in Canada or internationally: flights, accommodation in the city during the programme, and any meals outside the facility. These are real costs and should be factored into the total.
  • Medication tapering. If you are currently on SSRIs, SNRIs, or other contraindicated medications, a physician-supervised taper is required before ceremony can be discussed. This involves physician time—typically multiple visits—and is not included in the ceremony cost.
  • Time off work. Plan for a minimum of 5–7 days total: 3–4 days at the facility plus 2–3 days before returning to normal obligations. Many people need more. The integration period that follows is not on paper a medical absence, but returning immediately to full obligations after ceremony shortens the window during which the work can take hold.

The total cost of a complete programme—ceremony, integration coaching over 2–3 months, and associated time off—is more than the ceremony cost alone. It is also less than a month of residential rehabilitation, which in Canada typically runs $10,000–$30,000 per month without the neurological mechanism that ibogaine provides.

Who is not right for this

Cost is not the primary filter for ibogaine work. The medical contraindications are:

  • Cardiac conditions including QT prolongation, significant arrhythmia, or recent myocardial infarction. The financial cost is not the risk—the cardiac risk is.
  • Severe liver or kidney disease. Ibogaine is metabolised primarily by the liver. Compromised liver function changes the safety profile significantly.
  • Current SSRIs or SNRIs. These are absolute contraindications with no case-by-case review. The medication must be tapered under physician supervision and fully cleared before any ceremony date is discussed. Fluoxetine (Prozac) requires 4–6 weeks of clearance; most other SSRIs require 1–2 weeks under medical supervision.
  • Methadone. A specific transition protocol is required before ibogaine ceremony is possible.
  • Lithium and certain other psychiatric medications. Reviewed case-by-case during screening.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Active psychosis or schizophrenia-spectrum disorder.
  • Acute psychiatric crisis. Ibogaine amplifies what is present. It does not stabilise someone who is in acute instability—it shows them what they are carrying, without softening.

If any of these apply to you, no cost conversation is relevant until the medical picture is addressed. The screening process is where that conversation happens. Common questions about eligibility are covered in the FAQ.

Is this right for you?

Ibogaine and 5-MeO-DMT ceremony are not appropriate for everyone, and this work is not a substitute for conventional medical care. If you have been through conventional approaches—therapy, medications, abstinence-based programmes—and found them insufficient, and you do not have the medical contraindications listed above, this may be worth a direct conversation.

The ceremony page explains what the programme involves. The FAQ covers the most common questions about eligibility, preparation, and what to expect. If you are ready to apply, the applicationis where to start—you will receive a personal response within 2–3 business days.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the cost of ibogaine ceremony?

At Transcend, ibogaine ceremony costs $2,000–$5,000 CAD and includes: an on-site medical professional throughout the active 12–24 hour experience; pre-ceremony medical screening (EKG, blood panel, psychiatric history review, medication review); the medicine; full facilitation; and a 2–3 day supervised recovery period on-site. Integration coaching is a separate service at $150–$300 CAD per session.

Why does ibogaine treatment cost so much?

The cost reflects what a safe programme requires: a licensed medical professional present for a 12–24 hour experience, pre-ceremony cardiac screening (EKG and cardiovascular assessment), laboratory blood work, the medicine itself, and experienced facilitation. The cost of removing any of these components is not a lower price—it is an increased risk of serious harm to the person in the chair.

Does insurance cover ibogaine treatment in Canada?

No. Ibogaine is not approved for medical use in Canada and is not listed under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. It occupies a legal grey area: not explicitly prohibited, but not a recognised medical treatment. As a result, insurance plans do not cover it. The full cost is out of pocket.

Is ibogaine treatment cheaper in Mexico than in Canada?

Established ibogaine programmes in Mexico typically cost $4,000–$15,000 USD, which is $5,500–$20,000 CAD at current rates. Budget Mexican clinics exist at lower price points, but the variance in safety infrastructure is significant. When evaluating any programme, ask about the on-site medical professional, the cardiac screening protocol, and the supervised recovery period—not just the price.

Who should not do ibogaine treatment regardless of cost?

People with cardiac conditions including QT prolongation, significant arrhythmia, or recent myocardial infarction. People with severe liver or kidney disease. People currently on SSRIs, SNRIs, methadone, lithium, or other absolute contraindicated medications who cannot undergo a medically supervised taper. Pregnant people. People in active psychosis or acute psychiatric crisis. For these groups, the cost is not the barrier—the medical contraindication is. The screening process is where eligibility is determined.

Is there a payment plan for ibogaine treatment?

Transcend discusses all pricing transparently during intake, including whether any arrangements can be made. Start with the application at /apply—the intake conversation is where payment logistics are discussed, not before.

How much does 5-MeO-DMT ceremony cost?

5-MeO-DMT ceremony at Transcend costs $600–$1,500 CAD. This includes intake and medical screening, the 20–45 minute active ceremony with full facilitation, and a 2–3 day supervised recovery period on-site. Integration coaching is separate at $150–$300 CAD per session.

What does ibogaine treatment cost compared to residential rehab?

Residential rehabilitation in Canada typically costs $10,000–$30,000 per month. Ibogaine ceremony costs $2,000–$5,000 CAD for the full programme. The comparison is not straightforward—they are different interventions with different evidence bases and different appropriate populations. What ibogaine provides that residential rehab does not is the neurological reset: the GDNF upregulation and noribogaine window that makes new patterns more available. What residential rehab provides that ibogaine ceremony does not is extended, structured day-to-day support over months. For some people, both are relevant at different stages.
